Remodeling

What is a remodel?

Remodeling is the process of improving upon an existing structure. The two major types of renovations (or remodeling) are commercial and residential.

If you are going to sell your custom home in the future you can increase the value of your home by remodeling and updating certain areas of the home. Or if you are staying put for a while, remodeling can make your home more comfortable to live in as well as more functional for the way you live.

When do you remodel?

Two important points to keep in mind when remodeling a home:

  1. It is better to add a second bathroom, rather than just updating the only one you have. When it comes to selling a home, it won’t matter how beautiful the bathroom is if the house does not have enough bathrooms for potential buyers. Money is better invested in adding a second bathroom.
  2. And secondly, if you are going to stay in the home, remodel it to the way you want it to be, and to the way you live. Enjoy the space and the time you have in your home by remodeling it to your own specifications.

Why would you remodel?

Many projects do add value to your home, and improve your family’s quality of life. The remodels that add the most value to your home include: Kitchens (upgrading appliances, updating counters or flooring, adding fresh paint), adding a bathroom, adding energy efficient windows, installing a new deck, upgrading to energy-efficient insulation and basic upgrades within the home.

A kitchen or bath remodel is an excellent investment, which will often return more than 100 percent of the cost when it comes times to re-sell. This is because these are areas where people spend time in their homes.

What are the benefits?

By completing these projects now rather than later, you can enjoy the benefits and updates. Remodeling will not only add beauty and enjoyment to any kind of home, but it also increases the value of the home if or when you choose to sell. Furthermore, if you make green upgrades, then you can also start recouping your investment in these green energy technologies through rebates, tax advantages, energy conservation and cost reduction of bills once you complete the projects.
